Up until about 2 weeks ago, everything was more or less fine... the heat would take a bit to kick in but once it got started, man it was HOT in there. I'd have to put the window down after a couple of minutes of running the defroster.

Over the last two weeks, we've had some crazy weather, with temps dropping into single digits and even lower with the wind chill, and I use my car for work. I'm constantly in and out of my car, so I don't run the heat very much to keep myself acclimated to the colder temps outside. But I will turn the defroster as necessary to be able to see.

So anyway, I'm working, make a stop and then get back into the car and turn the defroster to clear the windows up and now it's blowing nothing but cold air.

Does anyone know what's wrong, and how much will this cost to fix?

When the engine is cold, is your cooling system full. Does the engine go to normal operating temperature? If it's full and goes to normal temp. could be issue with heater control door. Do you get heat when the control is set for feet, face, or both?

I have no idea about the cooling system, I'll have to check that out. The temp gauge goes to normal temperature, though. And I don't get heat at all, on any setting.

can you hear a door moving in the dash when you switch from hot to cold on the control head?

Nope. Occasionally I used to hear a faint beep coming from the speakers when I moved the temperature control knob, but that's gone, too. Also, the lights that illuminate the center and right knobs are out. Could this be as simple as replacing a fuse?

to the fuse no. if it was blown you wouldnt be able to control the air speed or any of that. may be a control head or an actuator.

LOL so much for a simple fix. What's going to suck most about this is that all my available cash has been sunk into Christmas. Fixing this will have to wait for the time being :(

I've got heat!!! My brother found this tutorial: http://handymanlyness.com/archives/...p_blend_door/replace_actuator_06_Equinox.html

So we got the parts, and spent most of the day yesterday tearing the dashboard apart and replacing the actuator and blend door. All in all, it wasn't too bad, just very time consuming... about 12 hours. Obviously we took our time toward the end and made sure all the electrical connections for everything were correct, and reconnected the battery before buttoning up the dashboard to make sure everything worked.

What we had to do that wasn't in the tutorial though, was to remove the steering column and brake/gas pedals in order to get to some bolts mounted on the firewall. Other than that, it wasn't all that difficult.. just not something I'd ever want to do again.
