I have a 1996 Pontiac Firebird with a bad motor (has turned crankshaft that makes motor knock) I am looking to either A. Replace motor with a similar one. or B. Fix crankshaft depending on labor involved/price.

So, time for the questions...

1) if I replace the L36 engine in it with one from a bonneville/grand prix etc...will that motor fit with the existing tranny in the RWD firebird?

2) will the motor mounts be the same in different vehicles as in the Firebird?

3)how much labor would be involved in removing crankshaft and getting it fixed at a machine shop?

4)how much would said operation cost?

If you can answer any/all questions PLEASE help!

much appreciated

If your paying someone to do the work it would be cheaper to replace the engine. In both cases you have to pull the existing engine but rebuilding yours would probably be more than getting a junk yard engine. The junkyard would know what engines would be interchangeable.
