I'm new to this forum and to owning a sunfire. I just purchased a 2002 sunfire 2 door coupe SE with 235000 kms (not miles) on it for $1500. It's used, it's older and I don't expect it to be tip top shape.

The seller provided me with a list and receipts of the work she had done to it while she owned it. Which coincidently was quite a bit. Most of it relating to the cooling system. All of those parts aside from the rad itself are new and warrantied.

What's going on is if I'm driving and shut the fan off, the engine lags a bit. Not enough for a passenger to notice, but as the driver I can feel that it almost... Slips. Doesn't make a noise or anything. But it happens when I shut the fan off or turn it on.

Also, when I turn the a/c on, which works really well... It makes a weird noise when I accelerate. It's hard to describe, kind of a gurgling or what you'd hear when your wheels are grinding on steel. It's weird, and only when the air is on and on accelerating. I'm assuming since its had cooling issues, that might be happening again?

This was the longest post ever and I apologize. Just need some insight!!

Thanks

When you turn the fan on it may also be turning on the A/C compressor depending on what the other control knob is set for. The A/C noise may be a bad compressor bearing but guessing over the internet is not too accurate. You have to locate the source of the noise.
