Sunfire 2000.? The other day, my 2000 Pontiac Sunfire made a loud "clunk" noise from the rear end, and since then, whenever I accelerate from a stop, a very loud knocking noise and intense vibration happen. The noise is not coming from the engine, it's coming from the middle/rear of the car. Once I get up to about 20 mph, it smooths out and stops. Accelerating from anything above 25 mph or so doesn't produce this noise.
I think it might either be a transmission problem--chipped tooth or something--or a CV joint. But, at the same time, it stops halfway through a gear, rather than stopping when switching into a new gear, and even though it gets worse with turning, it doesn't happen when turning at more than 25mph.

More facts:

--If I gently accelerate, it doesn't happen. Only if I accelerate normally, or roughly.
--Stopping the car sometimes produces a clunking noise.
--It's not a new engine, but I literally had the engine replaced with a refurbished one less than a year and a half ago.
--No history of transmission problems.

Can someone tell me what this is likely to be? I know just enough about cars to know that I'm probably getting screwed by Pep-Boys, but not enough to fix it myself. Thanks!

fix it yourself, check breaks, bearing, lug nuts. also it could be your struts. all of that is super easy to do yourself.

I would say lugs or bearings same thing happened to me on the front end and the dumbass that changed my tires didn't tighten the lugs, very scary sound

2 year old post!
