Loud screeching noise and then smoke from 95 Pontiac Grand Am?

I was driving home a few hours ago..when I turned onto my street and heard an absurd loud screeching noise (I even rolled my window down to hear it coming from the passenger side under the hood.) I slowed down,but it was still super loud (nothing like when brakes go bad) It was even kind of hard for me to accelerate the few last feet to the driveway..Then I smelled burning rubber and saw the smoke coming from the right side of my hood..not alot,but still.
I had my brakes and brake pads replaced a few months ago..Could it be a belt?

remove your drive belt and check all the pulleys and make sure none are seized.....if all ok check the automatic tensioner and the belt

hi.. yes , it could be the belt,, due to maybe the AC compressor is stuck or the water pump.. open the hood and find out which pulley dont turn , burning the belt.. good luck.. be carefull doing such job.
