Still unsure if I can remove the sump with the engine still in & the engine mount bolts out , have any of you got the sump off this way on a first gen Firebird ?? as I have said before I need to change the oil pump, OR could it be the sender ! PLease help:confused:

get a mechanical gauge remove the factory sender and test it. I dont have any referernce material on the early F body but every other Pontiac needs to have the engine raised to clear the oil pan for removal

I`ve always heard that oil pressure is caused by the clearances between the motor parts rather than an oil pump. I would second on getting a mechanical gauge first and see what it reads.

Thanks you guys, the engine does lift high enough , bur you have to move the wiper motor to clear the rocker cover , then the sump can be removed.
