i have to change the oil in my manual transmission and i was wondering what kind of oil to use in it, also is there a filter i have to change also?

Thanks

DEXRON-III Automatic Transmission Fluid, no filter

If it's automatic then there is a filter that you change but I don't think theres one for manual. And for the fluid I don't think it matters, as long as the transmission fluid is for a manual.

But it's a manual. Can you put that in a manual transmission?

that's what i was thinking. i have a lot of automatic fluid but it is a manual and there are no hydraulics or anything inside, i was just thinking about regular gear oil.

Did you try looking in the owners manual link that I provided above? It's on page 6-63 and states 1.8 quarts.

had no way of knowing you wanted to know about your 96, guess you dont have an owners manual, but if you just buy 2 or 3 quarts to be safe and fill it up to the level of the fill plug it's done.

No I don't have one, my girlfriend bought the car used and it sat for a long time and didn't come with any documentation or manuals. It's good to know that I'd only have to buy 2-3 quarts because the idiot at Hawks Prairie Automotive made it sound like it held over 10. They also wanna charge me 200 dollars for a Transmission flush. Is it easy to flush it yourself?

Thank you, and sorry I wasn't clear about the year.

OK, this thread started off with a question about a Manual transmission. Do you have a Manual or an Automatic because you cannt flush a Manual?

appears there are 2 automatics one is 3 speed the other 4 speed. The 3 speed shows 4 quarts, the 4 speed shows 6.9 quarts. Do not flush the transmission. All you are doing is changing the fluid and leaving the dirty filter in the transmission. Pull the pan and change the fluid and filter.

Ok thank you. Mine is 3 speed, so I'll by 5 so I have 1 on hand.
