My girlfriend joined the forum because she has a 1984 2M4 she bought new, really didn't like, hardly drove, and now wants to sell. The lower speeds on the blower don't work (high speed does), and the delay wipers don't work. I told here I'd try to fix them so she could sell it. Has anyone had any experience with either of these? Specifically, should I be looking at the switches/controls, or the motors themselves?

Thanks for any hints you can provide.

Others more familiar will comment later but the blower motor issue is usually the resistor needing replacement.

Heater Blower resistor

Thanks for the hint. Where is the resistor located and is it easy to get to? Can I get it on the aftermarket, or do I have to go to Pontiac?

I've done some checking,(AZ, GM parts direct,NAPA,etc.) and can't find a blower motor resistor listed for your car. It's either built into the HVAC controls, or isn't available any more.. might have to try a J/Y for it.

Minor electrical probvlems

Thanks for the hint. I took the trim panel off and could see right away that the connector had fallen off of the heater blower resistor. Plugged it back in, and that's fixed. It seems the problem with the wipers is the pulse board. Does anyone know where that is located? I took the wiper motor off, and it doesn't seem to be there. Any ideas?

BTW, I have found a good source for parts for these "tweener" cars (not new, but not antiques) to be AM-Autoparts (am-autoparts.com). They have the rsistor for $26.65 including shipping and the pulse board for $37.35 including shipping. I have no connection with them at all, but I've just had good oluck with them for oddball parts.

Pulse board

MelsG5 - Thanks for the hint. I checked the blower motor resistor, and it wasn't even hooked up. From the way the harness was looped around itself, I don't think it was hooked up from the factory. I plugged it in, and everything now works. On to the wipers. From what I've read, it is probably the pulse board. Can anyone tell me where it is located? I took the wiper moptot off, and I don't see it there. Can anybody help?

As for parts, I've had good luck getting parts for these "tweener" cars (not new, but not antiques) from AM Auto Parts (am-autoparts.com). Reasonable prices and shipping included (the above resistor is $26.65 with shippping).

The pulse board is under the dash. There is a 4-wire ribbon cable that comes down the column and plugs into it.
"Tweener" ??? they are antiques now. 25 years or older. I have antique plates on my 1986 right now. Only the 1988's are not considered antiques yet. Next year they will be.
