I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT V6 3.8L with about 160,000 miles. When decelerating there is a moan/whine sound coming from the engine. When I'm driving and take my foot off the gas its starts to whine until I come to about 10mph. I cant really hear it under 10mph when coming to a stop. You can hear the whining sound downshifting with the engine as well, the noise pauses for half a second as the gears change kinda like rrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrr rrrr . That's really all the info about it that I can provide, when I have it parked and the hood popped I cant really hear it while revving the engine since as I said it doesn't really make the sound until its over about 10mph.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? When was the last time you changed the trans. fluid and filter?

I just checked the level and its right where it should be. I suppose I should change it as it has been a couple years since last time ive done it. Do you think this might alleviate the problem?

If the noise is transmission related it might, a couple of years means how many miles?
