I am just getting back into the Pontiac scene. I just bought a block to start my build but I wanna make sure of it’s compatibilities. The block is a 67 400 with only two threaded holes for the motor mounts. I don’t have the car yet but it will most likely be a 69 firebird. I know there are blocks with multiple mounting points but wanted to confirm that this block will work in a first gen firebird. Also what else would this block be suitable for. Thanks for any information.

melsg5 is correct that Pontiac engines from 67-69 were made with 2 different motor mount configurations, F-Body, and Non-F-body. So your 2 bolt hole 67-69 block was not made to go into a 67-69 Firebird. But there are adapter plates available to put it in a 67-69 Firebird. Below is 1 source.

Another thing is to make sure any 67-69 firebird you purchase came with a V8 engine originally. The motor mounts for an OHC-6 are different than a 350 or 400 V8, and will just add more complication to you project.

Good luck and post some pictures! We lick pictures!

Hi cammerjeff: thanks for you reply however you contradict the article melsg5 sent. The article states that all 69 and earlier blocks had two bolt motor Mount holes. But yet you are saying that my 67 block with two motor mount holes was not designed to go in a first gen Firebird doesn’t make any sense. So what you are saying is that all the pre 69 blocks just sat on a shelf not being used while waiting up to 3 years for later model cars to get produced. I actually confirmed with the guys at butler and they said my 67 two motor Mount block will go in all first gen firebirds and all GTOs.
