I drive a 2002 Sunfire with the 2.2L and its an automatic (incase it matters). When i start the car it idles just fine press the brake and start to drive its all good, but soon as i hit the brake to come to a stop RPM drops to 0. There's no sputtering or shaking just shuts off. The only reason i knew it cut off the first time was because i had no powering stearing. I replaced the valve on the brake booster and after i did that i thought it fixed the problem drove fine the rest of the day. Next day i went to leave for work started just fine soon as i got to the stop sign hit the brake and once again it shut off. I noticed it doesn't seem to do it when i turn the heat on though?? I'm assuming its cuz it keeps the RPM's up. I've been stuck at a light already had to hold the brake and gas at the same time kinda treating the brake as a clutch. Also no check engine light. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?? I have a baby on the way only 9 more weeks and me and the wife don't need a car that won't stay on so any help would be great.

Well I sure wish somebody had the answer, my son has the same problem and I've been working on the, intermittent, problem for days........

brake booster leaking vaccum ? Plug off the vacuum hose to the brake booster and drive it , see if it fixes the problem , if so you will need a new booster.

Thanks brother. will check it out in the A.M.

How about the torque convertor locking, is the check engine light on?
