hello my LeMans with a 400 just started to sputter when accelerating but it dose it randomly when you accelerating its also the first time i have driven it in hot weather but its not hot it runs about 185. any thoughts on what might be doing it?

do you know the last time, mileage wise, plugs and if has points were changed?

it now has an HEI distributor and i have just taken out each plug and cleaned and re-gaped the plugs at .040

check the resistance of each plug wire with an ohm meter. It typically would be 1,000 ohms per foot of wire but my be different for HEI. Also check fuel filter and air filter.

the air filter is new one by specter. it could be the fuel filter. i dont have a ohm meter. could it be a vacuum leak or the carb is not adjusted right i think it runs rich.

with a vacuum leak you would probably notice a rough idle, spray around the base of the carburetor and where the intake manifold meets the heads with carb cleaner with engine running look for a change in idle. Do you know if the previous owner just bolted the carburetor on out of the box or made any changes to it? I believe from some of your other pictures it's an Edlebrock carb? Since you are experiencing the problem under load, accelerating, it could also be the electronics in the distributor.

from what i know he just took the carb out of the box and bolted it up. Iv tryed to adjust the carb. I also noticed that when its running at idle and you turn the wheel all the way one way it almost kills the motor.

do you have the manual for the carburetor, if not, its available at the Edelbrock site for download and would explain how to adjust the carburetor
