This is the second time in 3 months that I'll be replacing my headlight switch. I'm wondering why this keeps happening. Is it because the plastic is old and brittle? I'm in Canada, but it hasn't really been that cold yet. The first time my switch broke, I believe it was the original. I went to a junk yard to pick up another one, which promptly broke today.

Is it worth spending the $50 for a new one, or should I just keep replacing it with the $5 junk yard switches?

If anyone could shed some light, I'd really appreciate it. I didn't get any answers elsewhere.

Going to a junkyard you have no way of knowing how many miles that part was in service. It could have been 25k or over 100k. If you spend the $50 for a new one and it breaks within a reasonable amount of time the seller should replace it for free plus you know it has 0k on it.

Truth.

But I did some math, and if there's only 2 years of life left in my Sunfire; by replacing my switch every 3 mos with junkyard scraps I will have still spent $10 less.

I guess it doesn't really matter, either way. Thanks for the help!

isnt your time worth a lot more than $10?

Yes, but in this case it's a 5 minute job!

I ended up getting a used one from my uncle. No charge!
Thanks for all the help.
