Now that I have my intro out there, I have a question about my '99 Firebird. The first time it didn't start, it was making the "clicking" noise. Someone jump started me, I went home. It showed as overcharged for the next 4 days which I knew wasn't good, but I shrugged it off. Now today, It's not starting. Radio/air conditioner/etc still works, but car won't even make the clicking noise trying to start. I installed a new battery today but that did not change anything. If anything, maybe I can get a few ideas of what might be the problem. And I promise to do a follow-up on how it's going once I have things fixed. :)

Make sure your battery connections are tight both at the battery and at the ground and at the starter. Have someone try to start it and while they are doing that try to hit the starter solenoid and starter with a hammer, a solid whack is ok but dont get carried away. If it starts replace the starter if not the next thing I would do is remove the starter and have it bench tested.

I am not sure if this is true or not, but apparently it's the car's anti theft system. My friend's firebird did the same thing, and he had to lock/unlock the car and then it was fine. Sure enough it worked for mine. I'll keep a close eye and be sure to check on the starter if I have troubles again.

Did your security light flash or stay lit when you couldnt start it?

Same thing happened to me man, I changed the battery and the starter and still nothing. It turns out that I supposedly damaged the key chip when it fell into a puddle of water on my way back form work. I had to have a new key reprogrammed to the car, because the car would automatically turn off after a couple of seconds because it thought it was being robbed.
