My mother wants to buy me a car. It is a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am. Does anyone know any reasons why...

...or why not? I dont know if I should chance buying it. It is only $900 but my mom says that is becuase it is an older car in a rich big city where everyone wants new cars. I have also heard some bad things about older grand am's. Does anyone have any pointers in this matter?
The car is nearly 10 years old. I had a 96 four years ago untill I wrecjed it. It is an older car, not OLD but oldER. But I am poor and dont care and it is a nice loooking car (I have seen picktures of others)
Oh please. I am not that way. And I am a girl. I am just worried becuase I just bought an oldER ER ER ER used car not to long ago and it wasnt very long before it whent caput. It is not that I am spoiled. I havent had a car in a long time. Nearly two years and I am in college. AND, this is the really important part, I am paying for the thing myself! Dont be so quick to judge, my god! I asked for information about the car, not personality comments from people who do not know me or the situation. NO more people telling me I am spoiled, please. Jerks

well first of all, you should like to fact that your mother wants to buy you a car. some of us had to work hard to get a USED car. i've also heard bad things about grand am. try to explain to her that older Grand AMs aren't good, and ask her that if you pitched in some money, would she consider buying another car?

well, for one thing, 1997 is not exactly "older" and if its only 900 dollars? forget about it, there is definitely something wrong with it. why dont u do a lemon check on this car and its break down history on carfax dot com..
