my pontiac is broke plz help

I just bought a 95 Pontiac Sunfire stick shift off my brother and sister in law. I have had a few minor problems and fixed all of them. Yesterday on my way home from visiting my father I put my car into neutral while going down an off ramp and when i went to put it into first it acted like it was in neutral. I did manage to get it off the road and when i stopped i tried to put it in second and it still acted like it was in neutral. No matter what gear I'm in it acts like its in neutral. Its not the clutch because my clutch has never slipped or anything. It is not the transmission because it has never caused me problems. Its not the connection of the shifter to the gear or at least not the parts that i can see because when i shift i can see the shifter down beside my engine working just fine. I don't know what is wrong with it and I'm really worried. I have to go to florida in December and I really need my car fixed fast. I'm also a college student and can't make it to class without my car.... Please someone help me...

either the shift mechanism in the transmission has failed or the clutch has failed

the clutch feels fine and when i start the car it doesn't grind gears when i attempt to change it. It goes into the gear slots but doesn't engage into any gear. Its like it doesn't know I'm moving the shifter. I checked the link and its not that. how much does it cost to get your car evaluated on average??? I'm a college student and can't afford much...

It the depends on the hourly rate of the shop that you choose. Figure at least 1hr for diagnosis.
