Brettleh!

hey, i have a 98 pontiac sunfire with a Interstate battery brand battery with the model number of MT-78. Sometimes when in cold (i have not had this car that long) it wont start, it makes that noise like its trying to do something like things are turning and moving, but it doesn't "fire up" its the 2.2 liter 5 speed manual. I have had to have it roll started 2 times now, sometimes it will start from cold but others it wont. For example, i was driving it in a small town in Minnesota (where i live) and I accidentally choked it at a corner, or whatever it is that kills a manual. and i went to start it again and it wouldn't start. what could the problem be? any thoughts would be helpful! also, if you would be so kind, how expensive could this get? and are there any ways other than replacing a part to fix this problem or atleast diagnose it? thank you!
so its not the battery?

your battery is just a little weak, in the cold its just harder for a battery to start the car, the cold doesn't "kill" the battery it just makes it harder for the battery to start the car, thats why batteries have "cold cranking ratings" because that matters a lot more than when its hot since batteries have most trouble starting a vehicle in the cold, so thats why whenever i buy a new battery i get one with the highest "cold cranking rating", its not so bad here in NC because it hardly gets below 20 in the middle of the winter and thats on the coldest night so in places where its a lot colder for longer you need the highest "cold cranking" battery you can get even if you drive it everyday

now what people are mislead about is thinking the cold drains batteries worse than hot, thats not true, heat is the enemy in almost anything especially to do with vehicles and electronics, i've left my cell phone (not a car battery but still has a battery) in my truck while it was cold outside, left it in there all day and the battery didn't lose any more battery life than it normally would have in room temps, but when it was in the summer at one job i had a 12 hour shift and it was a rule that we couldn't have our cell phones with us so i had to leave it in my truck (wasn't just a normal job, was at a prison so ya couldn't sneak it in) and well i could fully charge it the evening before and then when i come back after the shift the phone would be completely dead so i'd have to charge it every evening, it had a good battery life to because if i never used it the battery would last at least 5 days so it wasn't a weak battery
