My son took out his rods and rocker arms in his v6 3800 series 2 motor

firebird. now something is knocking? he first tighten the bolts down without torque ( i think he tighten to far and pushed the lifter down) if so how to fix...i got a torque wrench 11lbs but it knocks sounds like number 5 on the firing order

the lifter would push back up once you loosened the nut. why did he remove the rods and rockers to start with? Are you sure when he pulled the rods out he didnt pull the lifter out of its bore because the lifter stuck to the rod?
