In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Hey everyone,

I finally signed a deal on a bigger house and should be moving feb. 1st. I will have plenty room for my cars and work shops so I want to start building up the pontiac.

It's a 1969 CustomS with a 350ci, not the HO. It has some things done to it so far and supposedly has a built motor (only solid info I have is when I changed the oil the filter was written on with a sharpie "break in oil")

I know it has a cam but I'm guessing mild. My 90' Talon has kelford 280/288 and is more agressive.

It has the following from the day I purchased it month or so ago; MSD 6A, MSD blaster coil, MSD wires, MSD distributor, headers, duel header back exhaust magnaflow mufflers, th400 (haven't confirmed), shift kit, 10 bolt lsd rear, 3:73 gears, edelbrock pontiac performer intake manifold, performer 4bbl carb 750cfm, A/C delete, edelbrock air cleaner, I changed the oil and put new plugs gapped correctly, arp head bolts, few gauges under dash, and I think a few more thigs I'm forgetting.

Previous owner said it has Keith black Pistons etc, but he also told me it was a hi perf 326 so I could've been fooled for this is my first old pontiac, but not new to cars.

A little history on my background and skills so you can let me know things I can do myself. Worked in a machine shop (very good one) for a year, built plenty newer 4 cyl motors (4g63T etc), pretty good at port work, pretty to very good at tuning via maps ecu tuning with my laptop etc, some welding skills, I'm ok at mig but pretty good at AC/DC tig. Been drag racing for four years now and own a 750whp 95 eclipse, a 1990 Talon making a little over 1k whp and the pontiac.

Goals for the Pontiac:

I would like to do a full out frame off restoration and make it a 10 sec street car, with room to grow of course.

For this thread I am looking for advice on the engine and making power. I would love to go turbo and would like thoughts on that.

Routes if I stayed carb or went EFI?
How to chose rocker arms?
How to chose push rods?
How to chose camshaft?
What are parts that I can change that will change HP, even if its a few I would like to know. I am really trying to find out all my options and certain routes I can take. I have researched for days and can only find few info on my motor and things people have done to them. I will like to document very step on here as well so the info can help others as well.

Thanks for your time and God bless,

Anthony B.

10 seconds is a pretty ambitious target for a low performance 350 with a 10 bolt rear and a stock transmission which would be a th350 if original. I think the first thing you have to consider is what kind of budget you have. Are you in a position to get a different larger engine with 4 bolt mains, aluminum heads, etc. Are you considering a 12 bolt rear? Are you considering major transmission work?

Hey Mel,

Yea I'm pretty open to whatever. I'm not thinking like it happening over night so Budget isn't that tight but I would like to use things that I can. If I absolutely need to change things for rigidity or reliability then I will but I like to push things. I was Todd I couldn't make 500who reliably through my 90 talon and I made 750 for 32k miles on a stock bottom and trans and axles, ran 9s and it's Fwd. It's fully built now making 1k but I did push it further then most would think of doing. I wouldn't mind doing the same to the 69'.

I tore into it last night and took notes. The valve springs are dual which I was Told are stock, push rods had WG1297 on them, and rocker arms seemed to be stock a well. I could tell the valve stems were recently ground from experience working in the machine shop for a couple years, but that's as far as I got.

Honestly if I could make it a 12 sec hi 11 sec street car I would be happy with it while I build my twin turbo set up. I haven't ordered any mechanical parts yet because I don't know what to get. I only ordered basically everything to do the interior, head liner, door panels, carpet, etc, and the gto spoiler so far. I only have the gto good and front bumper to order and im done with the looks of the car.

I just moved into a bigger house with 2 1/2 car garage so I would like to start wrenching in it mechanically but want to make sure of the direction I want yo take by knowing what will work for the short term goal and what won't.

Thanks and good bless,

Anthony B.
