Need to change the spark plugs and wires on 1988 Pontiac Grand Am?

How does the wire set come off the top of the plugs? Do they just pop off? Is a special tool needed?

Pull by the boot, not the wire and they should come off. Might take some force if they haven't been changed in a long time.

Just twist and pull it off by the plug boot. Change one out at a time, and you will be fine.
