I recently got a new alternator I got home from school and took the negative connection off the battery before i did anything then proceeded to take the alternator off got half way done then my stepdad got him and he said he will finish so I could go to work. So I went to work and my stepdad finished after i got off work I texted him asking if he got everything in and if every thing is working ok he said yeah but the thread for the battery was stripped a little so he put a little tinfoil in there to help the connection for the ground wire so then he told me he started it up and tested to make sure the alternator was working ok and he also drove it around the block so i said ok. Next day am taking the firebird to school start it up let it warm up a little and then pull out of my driveway put it in drive and go about 10 feet then I see my volt meter drop from 14 volts to zero and then i see smoke coming up from the hood I immediately turn turn the car off pop the hood open and see smoke coming from the ground wire and i leave my hood open it stops smoking after a couple of sec and then I get back in my car turn the key but not starting the car and nothing happens at all and I noticed my power steering was gone and my brake was super hard Im assuming this was because of a bad connection but im not 100% sure and also what will I need to replace.
