Hi all my names Kahtleen, and I have just bought a 1985 Fiero GT RHD Aussie.
I bought it as a easy project I hope, my dad said he will help me with it, its a 2.8 v6 auotmatic.
We have sorted a few minor things with it so far, now the major problem is......oil in the coolant..but there is no coolant in the oil.. we have been told its probably a head gasket, dad thinks its something else.
I have the manuals for it and have read the site but can`t find any other suggstions for the problems
It starts and runs well good oil pressure etc just the oil in the coolant, is there any particular tests or some place to start looking.
any help or suggestion welcome.
kathleen.

you could try draining the cooling system and just temporarily fill it with water to see if the oil returns. Do you have any brownish sludge in the oil filler cap? have you removed the valve covers to check for any build up there? have you tried pressure testing the cooling system to see if it looses pressure?

We will do a compression check tomorrow and see if there is any great variation between the cylinders.
There is no sludge under the cap very clean under rocker covers.
We have only just bought the car and after looking around and trying to learn about it we noticed that the atomatic cooling lines to the radiator have been cut and an oil cooler fitted, now we are wondering if maybe the original auto cooling lines that go into the radiator were leaking into the coolant, is this a possibility?
be nice to think that was the only problem, anyhow we will see what the compression test reveals

Thanks.

well removed spark plugs and did a compression test and all looks good all cylinders are within 136 to150 psi.
Not the most accurate readings but enough to rule out a head gasket Dad said.
So fitted new plugs gapped at .045 thou NGK, started and ran the motor for about 10 mins ran well still clean oil in trany and motor.
We will pull out the radiator later and pressure check the auto coolant pipe in there and see if it holds pressure, so far so good.
Of subject ....where would be a good place to try and buy the plastic windows that are just behind the doors, I`m down here in Perth West Australia, no spares around .

Thanks K

radiator hoses

Further to my last post, we have fitted new radiator, heater core and all new radiator and heater hoses also had the altenator serviced new brushes and bearing.
Runs good no sign of oil any where now we gave it a good flush and clean out.
Question, with the new radiator hoses Dad was saying there should have been a spring inside the radiator to water pump hoses so as they don`t collapse, ,,yes or no??
Also found that the aircond compressor is u/s and have not been able to locate one down here any suggestions of where to try up there.
Is there a buy and sell site in this forum, ??

Thanks K

typically a lower hose would have a spring, what about your old hoses, nothing there? Did you check on the internet for the compressor?

The old hoses did not have springs in them either, new hoses came from fierostore , asked fierostore about compressors and they suggested Rockautos.
I thought there may have been a buy and sell site on this forum for second hand parts. As both of the sail windows are cracked and also the clear covers over the tail lights and possibly find some other bits needed as well ..

Thanks K

You could inquire with Fierostore about springs but the hoses may have been designed not to need the spring. The classified forum is for buying and selling but I wouldnt buy a compressor that way. You have no way of knowing if it works.
