Here are a few pics of the headliner I just did in my 88. It was sagging and falling down looked like crap in general. Unfortunately no one makes the interior color for this car anymore so I had to just settle on gray.

Honestly the contrast between the visors and headliner look not that bad. Debating on keeping it that way or just relining the visors. Let me know what you guys think.

Here are the pics looks tons better....Oh and getting the old crap off is a pain. If anyone does this it would be good to use a wire brush attachment to a drill. Thats what I used and it didn't tear up the board at all.

I also had to reinforce a couple spots with cardboard. Getting these out of the car is a pain but doable shifting to Drive , tilting the wheel all the way up and laying the seats all the way down. It comes out the passengers side pretty easily.

Way to go! Contrast is good. I'm thinking hard bristled nylon brush when I do my pickup. At least I won't have a battle getting it out. You used spray on contact cement, right?

Did mine on the Silverado last year, got everything ( including Glue) at JoAnn Fabrics but not much color selection. Had settle on black since there was no blue.
Yours is fine . (contrast wise );)

3M sell a few different ones in spray cans or Permatex:

I think they sell real small cans since you will have a bunch leftover with the bigger cans. ( in a pickup)

Thanks guys as far as the glue went there is a can in the arts and crafts section at walmart. Locktite makes it and specifically says its for foam so it won't eat away the foam. The stuff at Joann's will work but is pricy $20 a can vs $5.88 for the locktite.

But you will find out quite quickly Trojanman that nylon will take forever to strip it. Honestly the board will hold up to a wire brush and you don't have to be too careful even with that it took an hour to clean it off.

And be prepared for there to be cracks in it you have to repair. But the nylon brush does work for the back just brushing it off. My car is 25 years old and is still tough as shit to get the foam off.

Yeah I am not sure if anyone other than joann's sells the fabric so you may be stuck picking gray, brown or black. Those are the only 3 they carry.

Oh and if you do use the locktite stuff be sure to get 2 cans of it you have to lay it on until it looks white and then let it tack up before joining and spray both the board and fabric. But yeah 1 can is not enough.

On a side note Joann's does have a lot of great vinyl to choose from for a dash material. But I may look to get gray to match the head board and just do the whole inside gray and blue 2 tone.

Reupholstering the seats are gonna suck.

Update

Ok so apparently the locktite glue don't hold up well to heat and humidity so I had to reglue the new liner. So scratch that on the locktite.

What I did use to reglue it was I used the 3m General Trim adhesive found in the body stuff of auto in Walmart. That glue is way better and does not take long at all to tack up. It also is heat and moisture resistant which the locktite definitely wasn't.

And yes it was a pain to unstick the parts that did stick with the old glue. Took a hair dryer but since the glue was weak I was able to save the fabric and it actually looks better and was a bit easier.

I am so glad you did that research! I mean, I'm glad it didn't go that way for me! lol

Now that you mention it , the can of Permatex ( http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-82019-Purpose-Adhesive-Aerosol/dp/B000HBIAKO ) I have to glue small things like the "felt" carpet ( what a joke for carpet!) and other things seem to have to be reglued after a couple of months, so dont use that either.

But then again water gets in the car from the repaired cowl area when it rains or I wash it. Punched a couple of holes in the floorboard drains to solve that problem. Been a major problem for the previous owner as all the carpet padding is gone, and I managed to slow alot of the leaks down, but not stop them all.;)

Cant remember what I used for the Silverado's headliner, had to give what was leftover to my friend cause we couldn't put it on the container. ( flameable)

small update on this.

Apparently the 3M glue holds up well to heat and moisture as advertised on the can.

Today was pretty hot around the 90's and it rained later so the humidity got up there. I then checked everything out tonight when it cooled down and none of it came unstuck. I would assume since it is trim adheasive it would probably work very well for that.

Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know it held up and I don't have to paperclip the liner to the headboard anymore so that a plus.
