Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just bought a 1995 Grand Am GT 2.3L. The story of this car, I am the second owner and the car was bought from an older gentleman up north. It has ~135,000 miles on the clock and from what I understand it has spent most of its last few years sitting in a garage not being used. The only issue that I knew of before I encountered this is the somewhat rotted muffler and loud exhaust. The issue I am having right now is with fueling. The car starts and runs, but at low RPMs (2500-3000) it sputters and backfires. This has made acceleration a problem. There is also the occasional smell of gasoline in the cabin and a hissing noise coming from the fuel rail. I know that a full tank of gas sat in the car for months and degraded, but I have gone through all that fuel now and use multiple injection cleaner treatments. I was just wondering if anyone else here has the same type of problem that I am having and if they could give me some advice! Thanks!

based on your description you have a fuel leak and I would check the vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator. If you see gasoline in the line replace the regulator.

Tried this, along with replacing the fuel filter. It helped marginally. I have read that the coil pack could have something to do with this. But if this is something to do with the ignition system, wouldn't I have a check engine light? Even with OBD 1?
