If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... Hi, I just joined this forum today. The main reason is to pick your brains for information. I just purchased a 1998 Pontiac Firebird Convertible and it was delivered Saturday. I am now going through the car finding any problems as so I can fix them and enjoy driving in these summer months with the top down.
The first think I need to address is the hideaway headlights so I can drive the car at night. When I turn on the headlights neither side moves. You can go to the front of the car and lift the drivers side but it wont stay up. It looks like a little arm from the motor to the light assembly is missing. The motor makes noise like it is working.
On the passenger side the fixture is stuck down and can not be lifted. I don't want to force it and break something. The motor on that side doesn't make any noise.
Last but not lease the power seat is stuck in the furthest position. Its a six way seat and none of the buttons work, and no noise.
Any helpful suggestions?
Thanks
MIke:)

The headlight motors are know for stripping the plastic gears. Most Firebird vendors carry a replacement. You will have to check using a voltmeter whether power is going to the seat motors or the issue is further back at the switch. I assume you have checked fuses.

I found the replacement gears on ebay and purchased them. The instructions that came with are for a 95 firebird but they feel they will work with any model. I agree to a point. It looks like the motors are the same and I should be able to change the gears without any problems. My problem is getting the motor out from the drivers side on my car. The pictures the show in the directions show the motor to be easily accessable, but on my car it is buried towards the back. I got two of the three mounting bolts off, but the third one is being difficult. I cant see behind the motor housing to see the bolt and when I get a 10mm combination wrench on the nut the bolt is turning at the same time. I tried putting tension on the motor while turning the nut but that didn't work. I have spraped about half a can of penetrating oil on the nut to no avail.
Any suggestions?
Thank-you!
Mike

Headlight motor

I bought the replacement headlight motor gears on line the directions that came with them are good for replacing the gears, but leave something lacking for getting the motor out of the car. First off the directions are for a 1993 and showes the motor to the inside of the headlight fixture. Mine is a 98 and the motor is behind the headlight fixture. I got two of the three nuts and bolts off the motor, but the third one is the problem. I get the 10mm combination wrench on the nut and when i move the nut the bolt keeps turning with the nut. I cant get behind the motor to see or feel the other end of the bolt. Any ideas?
