Hi. New member Ray from just east of Cincinnati, Ohio. I am the second owner of a 74 Buccaneer Red with a black interior Trans Am. 400 4sp with the orange and black bird. I was with a friend of mine who I bought it from when he ordered it from the factory. I have all the original paperwork including the bank loan papers and a letter from the dealership thanking him for the purchased. My dad worked at the Norwood, Ohio plant where they were made. It has 18,000 original miles.I have never read anything about this, but he was going to order it with the 455 SD option. Dad drove them off the end of the assembly line to be shipped and said the 455's had piston slap problem upon cold startup and engines were having to be replaced before they left the factory. They had stopped accepting orders for them and many of the replacement engines were shipped back to Pontiac engineering for evaluation. He suggested the 400 that had no known problems. The car was ordered with a am/fm radio and and no center console. The plant my dad worked at also built Camaros. He said Pontiac reps where there frequently to do random quality check inspections and that he never saw a Chevrolet rep.He said never saw a Camaro at that time getting a engine change. He had stories to tell about his experiences while working there and all the odd special ordered cars that he had driven. Thanks for letting me in this forum
