All,

Thanks for reading my very first post!

I just purchased what I felt was a fantastic find. 1978 Matching #'s that appears to be the Y88 but still have to confirm thru PHS. It was a Bill of Sale, no title purchase which I could use some input on but that's not why I'm posting. The decesion i'm struggling with is having the original 400 should I keep the motor stock in the rebuild or does it hurt the value to bore the block and beef it up? Like to redo the car with a 461 Stroker but not if it kills the value. Also considering buying another 400 and building it and putting the original back as was just fresh.

Please let me know what you think of the deal (Paid $4,000.00). What to do with Motor? And thoughts on it being a SE Y88 (has gold steering wheel, dash, steering column, headlight surround is gold, gold tinted t-tops, gold eagles on door panels and shifter etc.)

Thanks

the price is very low which makes me wonder why?
I cannt see a non-visible modification, stroker kit, impacting value.
does it say Y88 on the data plate?
you will know for sure when you get the information from PHS

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Boring the motor will definitely have a negative affect on the overall car value. Swap out the motor if you are going to do anything like that. If you got the bird for that little then you should be able to afford a brand new stroker motor. The same goes with modifications; If you upgrade, keep the original parts. I learned that thru my brother in-law. He bored out his Chevelle ss and lost value. Look up the going prices for a 78 Y88. You done good even if it ain't.
