alright, first off...im jason and new to the forum...ok, i recently purchased a 1997 ws6 TA. the guy i bought it from knew very little about the motor. it supposedly came out of an older vette and its a LT1. when i got it, the motor was in bad shape. the coolant looked like the original dex cool. very rusty looking and kinda thick. this motor has NEVER been taken care of and its very evident when you look at it. anyways, i flushed all of that fluid out and cleaned out the res tank as well, which was a bitch! so, i then took off the IM and cleaned 75% of the gunk out of it and cleaned up the TB. replaced the 2 gaskets and the sealant. and the sealant held by the way :) ok, i get everything put back on, replaced alot of cranked vacuum hoses and fired it up. idles real good at close to 900rpm, after 10 mins of idle the temp is about 190 on the dash gauge. so far so good...but, the second i hit the gas, i know somethings horribly wrong! i have horrible throttle response, and after driving around a bit, im getting smoke out of the oil dipstick tube and when i remove the oil filler car, i get smoke there too. kinda just whitish smoke. no smoke out of the tailpipes though. i changed the oil with fresh oil, no change. the old oil wasnt milky either. i do however smell gas while the vehicle is running. not raw gas, but you can tell its going somewhere it shouldnt. and, i put 4 gallons of gas in yesterday and got about 35 miles out of it. not good. it is missing bad but i dont know what all cylinders, im pretty sure its more than just one. it also has a leaky exhaust gasket. thats about it for the story. sorry it was so long but i gave you all the info i could think of right now on its problems...anyone have this issue before or know where i should start looking? maybe the oil pump? thanks in advance

my guess would be something wrong when you reinstalled the intake manifold, the engine is sucking in antifreeze, thus white smoke.

ive down the TB coolant bypass but thats got nothing to do with it i dont believe. ran fine after i did it. but even if it was coolant related, that still doesnt explain the bad misfires and total lack of power...im at a loss with this one

The smoke is probably from piston ring blowby. Sounds like you have a tired motor.

ding ding ding. exactly what im thinking. and a bad opti...and now, i think a bad alternator, lol

If you where leaking water and the water was as bad as you described the water pump could have started to leak out the weep hole on the opti and caused a problem .
