I just disconnected my radio to install a new one. I just snipped all of the wires. Bad idea right? I hooked up my new stereo and I am left with about 8 wires. My night lights(tail dim lights) wont work, along with my door ajar/ key in engine/ other sounds; my dash night illumination. Any ideas as to hook this up so I can drive at night again. P.S. the normal day headlamps come on, nothing happens when I turn the "auto" to "on".

Splice the wires you cut back together even if it means reinstalling the original radio. Then find out the correct way to install whatever radio you are trying to install.

The chimes all run through the radio. There is a module that you can buy to restore them.

I've found that most cars now have modular wiring harnesses to sound systems. Usually, if you just unplug those you can find an aftermarket plug/harness that will plug into the car's wiring harness. They have wires clearly identified to make it easy(ier) to install aftermarket systems.

Sometimes a new car radio will come with a selection of wiring harness options, or you can find these separate at most places that sell car radios.

So, like melsg5 said, your best bet would be to splice the original wiring back together and see if the stock radio can simply be unplugged.

Good luck!
