I used a Metra wiring harness to hook up a Kenwood KDC-MP438U head unit.
The unit has power/display. I disconnected the negative battery cable, hooked everything up, reconnected the battery cable, plugged in the harness, pressed the reset button on the unit, turned off the Demo Mode. Put in a CD and the display showed the unit was reading the CD, but no sound came out.
I did not connect the dimmer/illumination wires (they are capped off). I also do not have a factory or aftermarket amplifier or power antenna so the P. Cont and Ant. Cont wires are capped off. The unit has the ability to mute when a phone call is received, but I capped off that brown wire as well.
I was confused about how to connect the 12v switched red wire because even though the wiring harness has a 12v red switched wire, the instructions that came with it say that the factory harness does not so it has to be attached to an accessory source at the fuse using the provided fuse tap and red wire. I had no idea which fuse to use so I used the one marked "Radio" which is 15amp.
The only other thing is that the antenna lead is not connected because I'm still waiting for the adapter I ordered to come in the mail.
I am totally guessing my way through this and have no idea what I'm doing. Did I use the wrong fuse or does not having the antenna hooked up mean no sound can come out? I expected no sound when the Tuner was selected, but shouldn't there be sound when the source is a CD?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
