I have a 96 Grand Am GT. It calls for 5w30, but my mechanic put 10w30 in it. He said it would protect the engine better, but I'm worried. It's almost December. Should I drain the oil and put 5w30 in, or will the engine be OK with 10w30?
If it is high mileage and burning oil you could do 10W30 but unless you live in an extremely cold climate I dont see the necessity for 5W30 to the point of draining the fresh oil.
