Opening engine compartment with dead battery and no key!

How can I get the engine compartment open on my 1986 fiero GT when the battery is dead and I do not have a key for the lock? I've called multiple locksmiths and none can help as they say they won't/can't work on vehicles earlier than the 90's. Is there a way to connect a jumper batter to some other points on the vehicle to get power to the engine compartment switch?

You can either buy a memory saver that plugs into cigarette lighter or jack up car, attach positive jumper cable to large stud on starter and negative to block or frame.
