2005 Montana SV6 Weird situation - When it is hot outside (above 80) my service message comes up for stability control and traction control. When it is cooler than 80 degrees, no messages. My van drives beautifully and there are no issues with the mentioned systems.

Intermittant messages

My 2005 SV6 has intermittent messages "service abs" "service traction control." My mechanic read the codes once that the front sensors were triggering the code, but it went away quickly. Sometimes they come up when I first start the van, but if I shut if off and restart it, they clear.

Do the sensors wear out gradually? Or could it be another reason?

the sensors are built into the front wheel bearings so they are subject to heat and other environmental conditions. the other cause is the wire harness attached to them can deteriorate.

Since the message was intermitant, I have held off replacing the wheel bearings. I recently bought this 2005 SV6 with 100k miles. It has started just fine in very cold weather, but the battery had some years on it. First I cleaned the contacts in case that could cause a problem, since the battery tested ok one time and not another.

After installing a new battery in I have not had the "service ABS," and "service traction control" messages. Usually the messages would appear after sitting over night. When I started the vehicle, the battery would come up from around 11.8 volts. When I turned it off and restarted, the messages would not return.

Strangely, it looks like the battery was strong enough to start the car, but not enough to read the wheel sensors or tell the computer what it needed about the ABS. I has been several days, so I think the problem is solved!
