What temperature reading do you have?
All driving conditions or just hiway or just local?
What temperature thermostat?
Long time problem or new?
What pressure radiator cap?
What is initial timing?
Do you have vacuum advance connected to manifold vacuum?
Do you have the factory fan shroud?
Is the fan clutch working?
Also what type of impeller is on you water pump? Is it the factory cast impeller or the cheap generic stamped type? Also on Pontiac engines the divider plate spacing behind the water pump clearance can effect cooling. Also the seals on the transfer tubes. Also what year is your car? What year timing chain cover and water pump are you running? Here are some links that explain the possible issues better than I can.
Also is your lower radiator hose collapsing? They used to put springs in the lower hoses to prevent that when the engine was running. Just something else quick and easy to check.
