Oh
Ok so a little backstory. A few weeks ago I was driving and the head of my idler pulley sheared off. I managed to get it home but it had overheated pretty bad. Replaced the bolt and changed the water pump gasket because it was leaking somewhere but couldn't find out where and the parts store said that's the issue. Still overheated when I drove for more than a half hour so I bought a new resivoir yesterday because it was a little cracked and figured it was leaking from there. I put it on yesterday and let it sit overnight. Today I put new coolant in it and when I started it the upper radiator hose swelled up like you wouldn't believe, when id loosen the resivoir cap it would release a bunch of pressure and the hose would shrink back down to it's usual size. Then i drive it to see how it does and I lost all my coolant. It's coming from the left size of the motor because you can see where it had sprayed the inside of the hood. Could my issue be the waterpump/thermostat? This is my daily driver and I cant afford to miss too much work chasing problems. Thanks in advance guys!

It could be a thermostat stuck closed but rent a pressure tester to find the leak

I had a situation last night and I had no choice but to drive it and it overheated again, died, and it won't start back up. I replaced the thermostat this morning and replaced the plugs and wires (that's how I got it up and going the last time it overheated and then wouldn't start back up) and still won't fire. It turns over real slow but acts like it's getting no spark. Refilled the coolant today too. Took around half the jug, I let it sit for a while and had to put the other half in. I have a feeling the head gaskets gonna need to be replaced.

if the battery hasnt sufficient power to turn over the engine it's not going to start too easily. Have the battery charged and load tested.

That's on my list but I noticed the coolant is leaking from the two lower manifold bolts. Not the four that bolt in near the plugs. Do those bolts go through a water jacket? I've got a Chilton book but I can't find anything useful about my issue lol

I have no idea of what year or what engine you have so hard to do any research. You can remove the bolts when the engine is cold, put some thread sealant on them and reinstall.

Sorry I thought I included engine and year. It's a 2001 with the 2.2

your first post said the left side of the engine but then you said manifold. The left side would be the water pump possibly but again you need a pressure tester to pinpoint the source of the leak

Yes the bottom of the hood was wet on the left side, I have the hose for the overflow pointing straight down so I think as it was emptying out it was hitting the belt and all that and being thrown up as it turned. I just happened to notice coolant leaking from the manifold bolts when I was putting the spark plugs in.

I'm gonna go ahead and take the bracket for the alternator bracket off tomorrow so I can see things a little more clearly. The one drawback to a car is everything is so cramped.
