Hey all. I'm new and registered because I can't figure out the problem I'm having. While I love Pontiacs and their styling and driving traits the one thing I HATE is trying to work on my 3.1 liter 1997 Grand Am SE. Sometimes I catch myself thinking how I'd love to shoot and hang the engineers that crammed this engine into as little space as possible and all the unnecessary sensors and vacuum lines this engine has.
My problem is a P0305 cylinder #5 misfire code. I've verified that I have a hot spark coming from the coil and I replaced the spark plug. The old one was relatively clean. I installed the new plug and no different. It doesn't want to start when cold-I have to give a little pedal for the engine to catch. The idle fluctuates after a cold start but smooths out. My gas mileage isn't too good and the exhaust smells rich with gasoline. When driving it does fine-no sputtering or loss of power.
I'm pretty sure my spark is good-so could I have a bad injector? Or could it be a vacuum leak? I'm pulling out my hair trying to figure out what's wrong. Any help will be more than welcome. Thanks!
