I know P0440 says unable to pressure up
P0442 says slow leak in the EVAC system

I would think these codes could cause rough idle and cause the engine to die, but the car ran great up until today. Had power loss, could only run about 10mph, put it in park for 5 minutes then it was okay again for about 20 minutes, then again almost home 10mph then it dies in the driveway. It will barely start and then die.

I physically checked hoses, unable to do a smoke test.
Changed the gas cap.
Reseated some cable connections.

I would think a slow leak or cracked hose would not cause the current condition but could cause the code. I am thinking one of the parts was flaky and has now failed suddenly.

Any thoughts on a high suspect part that could fail and cause this? Would like to try something before spending alot at a dealer.

Neither code causes drivability issues. Are you sure a new code hasnt occurred?

It is quite possible there is a new code, just cant get it to Auto Value to read it now.

I think I may have found the issue.
When turning on the ignition I would think you could here the fuel pump start up and pressurize. I hear nothing.
There is a little valve on the fuel line which looks like a pressure release valve, nothing comes out. I have a feeling the fuel pump is shot, just off the phone with GM, 600 for the pump and 400 to change it.

make sure the filter isnt clogged and the fuel pump relay hasnt failed

Yes, tks, I did swap the fuel pump relay with the AC relay, no change.
Filter, I will have to locate it and check it, never thought of that.

Can I safely assume that without hearing the pump run when turning the ignition on, and the fact no gas came out of the release valve, that the pump is screwed?

It looks like quite the job to drop the gas tank and swap out the pump.

good chance but you should use a volt meter first to make sure the pump is getting power

FYI. I had two relays fail at the same time. The fuel and the ac relay. They were from auto zone. I had put them in when I bought the car. I replaced them with napa relays a few months ago and all is well. I think there is a way to test the pump with a jumper wire.
