I have an early model 88 (so still the style of the 87) Sunbird with a little rust under the doors. I am about to order some paint from automotivetouchup.com and do some rust grinding. The only problem is that on my window sticker sheet it says the color is "26U PAINT-LT BLUEMET -PRIMARY" this is fine and dandy, but online the site says that the paint code 26 is Lt SAPPHIRE Blue Metallic. Do you know if this will match since the text on the sticker doesn't say sapphire, or should I just get the Lt Blue Metallic paint which is code 22?

Also, do you know if there was a clear coat on these cars?

Thanks

There should be a metal tag on the radiator support that should have the paint code on it.

alright, thanks for the reply. I saw that site before, but it's $5 more per 12oz can so unless you know it's really a lot better quality, I'll probably stick to the cheaper site.

But anyways, what confuses me though, is that the window sticker (I think that's what it's called (its the form from the window with the gas mileage and options)) says the paint code is 26 - Lite Blue Metallic, but the website says that the paint code 26 is Lite Sapphire Blue Metallic. They may have just cut the sapphire part out of the window sticker, since it fills the column. So should I just go with the code or should I go with the name?

since there appears to be confusion about the paint name versus code I recommend you go to a local autobody supply store and let them look up the codes and you will be able to determine which is correct. They may even be willing to sell you a small quantity for touchup.
