I have an 85 Fiero I just put a radio in it using a plug and play connector, the radio works perfectly fine but now the dash lights(backlighting to the gauges) keep popping fuses.
On the radio harness of the car, What did you hook up the Gray wire to?
The gray wire controls the display for the radio as well as the dash lights thru the headlight dimmer circuit. If you hooked it up to the wrong wire of the adapter harness or it isn't hooked at all it could be shorting which would blow fuses.
ok new problem!!!! my panel lights went out again and my tail lights dont work either are they tied together circut wise or are they separate issues????? and do you know where i can find wiring schematics for this car??
When you cut the wire did you tape over the end of it? There are metal brackets and such behind the dash. It can still short things out.
The tail lights and panel lights are not the same circuit, But GM uses a floating ground system so if a fuse blows, It can sometimes do strange things.
If you click on the link below you can download the 1984-1988 Haynes service manual for the Fiero. Inside has scematics of the wiring as well as color codes and locations of connectors. http://www.fieronews.net/fusion/downloads.php?cat_id=1
As for knowing Fiero's, I bought mine in May of 1986 and have been hooked on them ever since.
I ended up getting my baby fixed... the ground wire was connected to the wrong ground... thank you for everything though you are one of the smartest fiero guys I know and I know ALOT!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
