Whats a good website i could go on to get a performance chip? (horsepower/ torque gain)
 
They sell one at the Fiero Store: www.fierostore.com
But the minimal gains vs. cost isn't really worth it.
The best way to get more power is to change things like the exhaust manifolds and the throttle body. The Fiero Store sells a larger throttle body and Sprint Performance exhaust manifolds. The two items together are good for 10-12 HP gain. The performance chips usually gain 5 or less.

Read the fine print. They advertise UP to 30 hp and better gas mileage.
So if you install the chip and gain 2hp and get .1 mpg better, they are not lying. The thing is GM did a decent tune on the Fiero V-6's so there isn't a lot of tuning that can be done.

None of those will work. The HKS is no good. It just fakes out the computer as to the actual air temp. This has been known to cause ping and harm the engine. The other two products are piggy-back programmers. The Fiero uses a PROM not an EPROM or Flash Prom. In order to change programming you need to replace the PROM. Also there is no such thing as a 1989 Fiero.

If you buy any of those products be prepared for some serious disappointment.

Oreif, you are a walking lexicon of the Fiero, I read every one of your posts, but you are wrong on this one! There was ONE Fiero built in 1989! :):):)

Actually that is incorrect. The prototype was actually planned as the 1990 Fiero. They were going to seek approval from corporate GM in 1989.
Also here is a trivia fact, The Fiero prototype had all its badges removed and replaced with Firebird badges because Pontiac used the Fiero prototype as the Firebird prototype for the 1993 design changes! GM corporate never new they were looking at the Fiero prototype.

I hate to argue, but while you are correct, it was the 1990 prototype, it was built in 1989, that's why I posted the VIN too.

"A prototype of the never-produced 1990 Fiero was displayed at the 20th Anniversary show in July 2003, at Fierorama 2005, at the Michigan show in 2006 and most recently at the 25th Anniversary Show in Pontiac, Michigan in 2008. Continued showing of the prototype may no longer be an option in the near future, as GM has taken to cutting funding to relieve the pressure of its financial woes.

Much of its design influence is apparent in the Fourth Generation Firebird. New engines were proposed for the 1990 model year, from the then new DOHC 190 bhp (142 kW) "Quad 4" 4 cylinder as a base engine to replace the 2.5 Iron Duke to a new 200+ bhp DOHC V-6 for the GT models. Even a 231 CID (3.8 L) Buick Turbo V6 powered Fiero is rumored to have been seen at a test track. The single 1990 Fiero GT prototype had an early version of the upcoming DOHC V-6 that would be put into production in the Grand Prix and Lumina Z34 in the early 90's. This engine developed more than 200 bhp (150 kW)."

That is NOT the VIN. The prototype does not have a VIN it has a frame control number that looks nothing like the VIN. I am on the board of directors for the club that runs Fierorama. In 2005 we had all the GM Fiero prototypes at our show as well as representatives from GM. I have seen and sat in the prototype and the reason "Much of its design influence is apparent in the Fourth Generation Firebird." is because the prototype was actually used to pitch the body changes for the Firebirds to GM corporate. The nose badge that was on the car is a Trans Am GTA badge. It replaced the Fiero badge when it was repainted.

It was NOT built in 1989. It was actually built in 1987/1988. (started in the summer of 1987 and finished Jan of 1988.)
April of 1988 is when GM closed the Fiero plant doors. Also there were 2 of them built. The first one was just the rough body changes mounted on a 1987 chassis. It was crushed back in 1990. The second one used a modified 1988 chassis and was fully functional. It originally had a turbo 3.1L but then changed to the 3.4DOHC V-6 just before they repainted it and displayed it as a Firebird. Originally it was metallic gray paint then repainted red when they pitched it as a Firebird.

Before copying statements from wikipedia, I would verify the facts. Wikipedia is not the final word on everything.

But back to the topic at hand...

Not interested in performance chips. But is there any way to squeeze just a little more horsepower out of the Duke? I like the simplicity of working on the TBI four-banger, but I wouldn't say 'no' to a little more bite.

Whats funny is that Landie copy and pasted this from wikipedia. I guess if people see it on wiki then it must be true.


Anyways oreif I had a question for you. I have an 84 and 87 fiero, my 84 is back in the mainland so i picked me up and 87 here since i couldnt ship more than one car for free (Army) I have a 302 and a 289 motor in my possesion w/ 2 T-5 transmissions and i was wondering what all would i need to swap the iron duke out with these.

If i could get a 3800 SC motor which is in my 84 fiero back home ( i didnt put it in) that would be awesome but not really finding a whole lot here on Oahu. So my best option would be trying to put one of those motors in. Got any tips? a directions?

Any help would be much obliged.
