How much play am I suppose to have in my timing chain. The teeth on both sprockets look good - Worn but not bad. There is play in the chain. I just don't know if the chain needs replaced. Advice? See pics.

Also, my fuel pump eccentric is off center. Is it suppose to be like this. See pics.

Good advice. The chain and both sprockets were only $72. While I am there right . . .

The fuel pump eccentric is suppose to be off center. Being off center is what drives the mechanical fuel pump lever up and down.

Parts coming in tomorrow . . will update all in next couple days.

What a difference all new parts make. New timing chain and gears, new fuel pump and lines and new water pump. All works and car runs much better. Holds an idle much stronger. And no leaks - so far. Time will tell.

Great to hear that, good luck with the car!

Now that I have a tighter chain and more fuel going to the carb . . I need to tweak my fuel and air screws to lean the engine out. I am out to purchase a timing light with RPM reading. I think that is the only way to really get a good reading for the fuel and air screws.

If you still have points you will also need a dwell meter and the tool to adjust it.

No points. Electronic ignition installed . . MSD. How cool is that.
