Hey Everyone;

This question is concerning my wifes 2001 Grand Am GT.

I would really appreciate some help on this if you don't mind.

The Service Vehicle Soon light came on the dash and according to the owners manual, it has something to do with the automatic headlights.

No doubt as they do not work now and the only way I can get the headlights on is to turn them on manually and only the high beams work. I notice now that when I first start the car, the headlights come on, flash several times, go off and the light comes on the dash (service vehicle soon) and the headlights go off.

I've checked all the fuses but I don't know where to go from here.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.

I have a 2006 Gran Prix that is having problems with the headlight too. My mechanic checked it today and said there is a wire inside the fuse box that is broken or loose and not making contact. This will not show up on a diagnostics check. They have to check the ports of the fuses to see if the are getting power. Hopefully this will help you. If the fuse box is not sealed shut they can open it and repair the wire, mine is sealed so I will have to replace the entire fuse box.. Not happy about that!

Thank you for taking the time to contact me and share your information. Turned out, mine was just a burned out headlight and it was solved fast and cheap.

I am concerned about what they are telling you though. How do they know the problem is in the fuse box if it is sealed shut? Also, I have never heard of a fusebox being sealed shut, how would you ever change a fuse?

Me thinks you should seek a second opinion. I don't like the sound of that diagnosis. Thanks again for contacting me, let me know how it come out.

Cheers!

THe fuses are accessable but the wiring inside the box is not. There is a light meter or amp meter that you can use to see if something is "hot" or getting a connection. This is what he used to find exactly which fuse wasn't getting a connection. I am glad your problems all worked out okay though.

Thank you Pearliemae, That makes much more sense. Didn't mean to suggest anything other than it didn't make sense. Now it does. Good luck with your repair, sorry you have to do it.

Cheers
