Please help me

i have a 98 grand am. it is a V6 and it has problems. my main problem that I really need help with is this: It wont shift into gear it wont move... like you know how some cars have the shiftier in the center, well the button wont go in, and it wont moved, and yes the break is all the way down and the wheel isnt locked. It has to be something with the senors for the breaks or a sensor that has to do with the break engaged or the shiftier isnt connected correctly.
Someone please help I have school and I job I need to get too. I have no other way.

there is a "U Clip" right under the release lever on the handle of the shifter..sometimes they break..if it is broke ,then that would be your problem..

have you checked for a blown fuse, you may have have a shifter interlock requiring you to step on the brake to release the shifter. If the fuse is blown you cannt get it out of gear. Check your owners manual.

Sticky shifter

I had that same problem with 01 GAM. Turn ig key to on but dont start. Shift to neutral, start car. Be sure to hold brake when moving out of park or have em brake engaged
