I have a 2001 Pontiac Montana Extended and recently the hood just quit latching. I had it held down with a bungee cord. When I got my oil changed, the guys said that they fixed it, and that there are adjustor "thingies" that control how far the hood can shut and they just needed to be adjusted. Well, of course, the next time I opened my hood it wouldn't latch again, and I have no idea what adjustor thingies they're talking about! Please help! I don't feel safe with it like this, and I'm also getting ready to sell it soon and want to make sure it's fixed first. Thank you!!!!

I second that what yoyo said spray some degreaser on the latching mechanism,go have a beer or two then spray some lub on it like wd-40 , then work it a few times,then have another beer while you admire you work.

If you open the hood, you`ll see the release on the hood part. This is the thing you put your hand under the hood for, to pop the hood open....it`s like a latch. It gets corroded and needs to be replaced or lubed really well. If you want to latch your hood, you`ll have to manually pull the tab down. It`s the flat plate to the right of the hook. Its what you lift up on when you want to open the hood....

I too have ran into this problem
I too have ran into this problem. I have cleaned all parts and relubed them with white grease. The hood still does not latch. What had happened is my son acciently placed the hood prop across the latch and then tried to shut the hood. He let the hood go about half way up. The bar in/on the hood did NOT appear bent. The latch seems to be unaffected. The hood acts like it doesn't go down far enough for the latch to catch. Any ideas?

Pontiac montana front hood won't latch
Hi Friends,
I have a 2003 Pontic montana which had this problem.The problem happened when i accidentally closed the hood with the support bar on the latch.when the latch goes down it won't latch with the small piece of Pin/bar under the hood.
The latch is held by two bolts(which can be seen from outside and are easily accessible)which sit on the base that has adjustable holes.(No need to remove the cable )Simply loosen the bolts ,raise the latch to the maximum and tighten the bolts.It is done.
