Hello everybody I am new to the whole forum thing but I've been building my 1978 pontiac lemans and have 2 motors for it and just wondering what the best drive train combo would be between a 1973 pontiac Bonneville 400 or a Chevy 350 the car currently has no motor in it but I have both the 400 and 350 at home waiting to be put it and it also has a 400 turbo Trans in it with a bm ratchet shifter in it which I have been thinking about changing that too if there were any opinions about that as well.

the 400 from the Bonneville would be a low performance motor that with some modifications, depending on budget, could be done to improve it. You have not given any details on the Chevy 350. Which 350, 4 bolt main, 2 bolt main, large valve, small valve, camshaft, etc. The bolt pattern on the transmission is different for a Chevy versus a Pontiac so depending on your choice you may need an adaptor plate.

just finished a frame off restoration on a 64 lemans and decided to go with the more popular , cheap and abundant parts 350 chevy with roller rockers comp cam and a 700r4 attached ! best decision I could have made 300 lbs lighter and moves out like bat out of hell!!!

I did a BBC conversion on my 68 many years ago.
Tight fit, but made the car a completely different animal.
Wish I had never sold that car.
