I have a 2004 grand am gt with a blown head gasket. I have the money to get a new engine and for the labor. Just wanted too see what other think is it worth it or should.i cut my loses. I love and miss my little grand am.

I assume you mean a used engine from a salvage yard?
How many miles on your engine and how many miles on the used engine?
Compare the cost of each .

140,000 on the blown gasket engine 80,000 on the salvaged engine cost is roughly the same

Without all the details of the car any investment in repair over 1k is not worth it.

Are you doing the work yourself, friend doing it cheap or a shop ?
My opinion, rebuild the motor.
Head gaskets are $10, buy new head bolts.
Timing chain & gears are around $40.
I would buy the upper gasket kit, new timing chain and be done with it.
Saves hours of pulling a motor & you never know why someone junked a car.

I once bought a rebuilt Jasper tranny from a scrap yard that was locked up.
They never tested it, they saw the Jasper tag on it and assumed it was good.
I bought a motor from a scrap yard that was told to have 30k on it.
2 pistons had broken rings.

I will always rebuild before replacing & if I must replace, it gets rebuilt before going in.
