Introduced in the 1984 model year, the Fiero got
off to a great start. However, spotty quality,
high insurance rates, and a weak demand for two
seaters prompted GM to drop the line, just as
design and quality improvements made the car
better. No, it was never a great design, but it
was arguably smartly styled, fun, and interesting.

You can buy Fieros cheaply today. Is that likely
to change in, say, 10 years, when it's likely that
the vast majority of the almost 500,000 produced
will have been scrapped?

The popularity may depend on how much support the vehicle gets from aftermarket parts reproduction.

I rcently acquired an all original 1984 Fiero with under 20K. & I am totally satisfied with my purchase & having a great time driving it. Also, where ever I go. & stop somewhere, people just gravitate towards the Fiero with inquiries.
My suggestion to you is to shop around. Spend the extra money, but go for an unmodified & rust free Fiero, They are out there, but you have to be patient.
In my opinion the Fiero's had their time and place with making history for Pontiac during the eighties. If you do some futher research on the Fiero, you will find an interesting angle how the Fiero was trying to come through the back door and nip at Chevrolet's Corvette. However, GM corporate got wise to Pontiac's scheme and stifled further generations of the Fiero.
Case in point, do some research on the 1984 Indy 500 Fiero Pace Car show casing its potential. That particular1984 Fiero Indy 500 Pace Car, that lead the field, was producing around 230 H.P. Amazing what could of been with the Fiero, if Pontiac had been given a chance at it with GM corporate.
Check out the history of the Fiero when you have time.
In closing, shop wise & you will be satisfied when acquiring a piece of Pontiac History :)
