My 1986 Pontiac fiero's battery is not charging, I have a brand new battery and a brand new alternator. This is my second alternator because I went to auto-zone and they tested it and said it was bad.

My generator(alternator) light comes on, I tested the wires and the alternator gets voltage so I dont think it could be a fusible link, I checked every fuse known to man. I dont think it could be a bad alternator, unless they gave me two duds, but its possible im sure, just very slim and im hoping my luck isnt that bad.

Any ideas?
I cleaned the battery cables with a steel brush and some baking soda and water, the battery terminals are brand new.

As for the starter, it starts every time wonderfully, until it the battery dies.

Any other ideas? I appreciate the help. Thankyou.

are the battery terminals clean and tight? also the belt might be slipping. it can,t charge if the terminals are dirty or loose. another thing you might not believe but the starter has something to do with the charging. it don,t quit working when you get it started because your hot cable hooks to it.

The poster who mentioned the starter is right but if you want detailed help with your ride, contact local fiero club. They can help with info and parts and cautions.
