...problem? I am trying to diagnose ac problem on a 2000 pontiac grand am. 2.4 4cyl. I think it might be a relay. Is there a way to force
the fans to turn on without the engine being up to temp? Should
they turn on whenever the ac or defrost is on?

What fans?
Your engine cooling fan upfront of the radiator, or the fan(s) that blow air thru your vents?
The cooling fan goes on at a preset engine temperature. You could temp hot-wire it around the thermostat switch.
The blower fan for your ac and heat should go on whenever you flip their switches, but their use doesn't automatically mean your engine cooling fan should be on-its thermostatically controlled.
Good Luck!

the fan shold turn on any time you turn on you ac and expescially defrost. yes the fans should turn on with out being up to temp. but the only way to diagnos this problem is to have it checked out.
