down? Hello, I have a 1999 pontiac grand am with 90,000 miles on it. About two months ago whenever I would stop at a red light, or stop sign it would begin to shake almost like it was going to cut off. A month later it would sometimes actually cut off whenever I would stop at a light or something. Now im noticing that when I start my car up the RPMs will go up and down between 0-2 and my engine sounds like Im stepping on the gas. I took it to the shop they looked at it said it was a fuel pump but the same thing started happening again after a few days or so. Took it to ANOTHER shop they fixed a "hole in one of the hoses" Today I got it out the shop for the third time after they said it was a dirty air filter, and plugs but im still facing the same problem. Can anyone out there PLEASE give me a suggestion as to what it could be???

Check the Idle air control on the throttle body. It is probably plugged up.

^ +1 on checking the IAC solenoid. And you may consider looking around for a competent mechanic, sounds like you had a couple of nothing more than parts-swappers.

If your 'check engine' light has come on while running - the computer should have a code stored to indicate what it didn't like - cuts down on the random troubleshooting.
